Failed O365 Credentials Due to Invalid "Secret Value"

The "Failed O365 credentials due to invalid 'secret value'" issue occurs when the authentication process between CYRISMA and Office 365 fails due to an incorrect or missing client secret. This can happen if the user mistakenly enters the client secret ID instead of the client secret value during setup or configuration.

Common Causes:

  • Client Secret ID vs. Secret Value: In the Azure portal, the client secret ID is visible, but the client secret value is not. The secret value is crucial for proper authentication and must be securely stored at the time of creation, as it will not be displayed again in the Azure interface.
  • Incorrect Secret Value: If the secret value entered is incorrect or expired, authentication will fail, preventing proper integration with Office 365.
  • Missing Secret Value: If the secret value was not recorded during its creation, it cannot be retrieved from Azure and will need to be regenerated.

Solution:

  1. Confirm the Secret Value: Ensure that the client secret value entered into CYRISMA matches the value generated in Azure. Do not use the client secret ID.
  2. Regenerate the Secret Value: If the secret value is not available, generate a new client secret in Azure and securely store the value.
  3. Update the Secret in CYRISMA: Enter the correct client secret value in the relevant configuration section of CYRISMA to restore authentication functionality.

Note: It is essential to keep a record of the secret value upon creation, as it will not be visible again in the Azure portal after the initial generation.

This error can typically be resolved by verifying and correctly entering the client secret value, ensuring seamless integration between CYRISMA and Office 365 for ongoing monitoring and scanning.
