Agent Compatibility with Data Scans: Mac and Linux Limitations

The CYRISMA Mac and Linux Agents cannot perform data scans. This limitation may result in scanning issues, such as scans getting stuck at the "calculating" phase if a Mac or Linux Agent is selected for the data scan. To perform data scans on Mac or Linux devices, a Windows Agent must be used.

Key Points to Note Why This Happens Best Practices Future Considerations What to Do if a Mac or Linux Agent Is Selected for a Data Scan Next Steps

Key Points to Note

  • Unsupported Feature: Neither the Mac Agent nor the Linux Agent currently support performing data scans.
  • Windows Agent Required: To perform a data scan on Mac or Linux devices, a Windows Agent must be used. This ensures the scan can run successfully.
  • Common Issue: Selecting a Mac or Linux Agent for a data scan may cause the scan to remain in a "stuck" state.

Why This Happens

  • The Mac Agent is designed for other types of scans (e.g., vulnerability or baseline scans) but lacks the functionality needed to execute data scans.
  • Similarly, the Linux Agent is optimized for specific scans but does not support data scans directly.
  • The scanning process for data scans relies on capabilities that are only implemented in the Windows Agent at this time.

Best Practices

Device Selection for Data Scans:

  • Always select a Windows Agent to perform data scans, even when targeting Mac or Linux devices.
  • Ensure the Windows Agent has the necessary permissions and access to the Mac or Linux device for scanning.

Agent Device Availability:

  • Verify that the selected agent device remains online and active during the scan to avoid interruptions.

Future Considerations

This limitation has been noted for potential future updates. Expanding the functionality of Mac and Linux Agents to support data scans is under discussion but is not currently implemented.

What to Do if a Mac or Linux Agent Is Selected for a Data Scan

  1. Stop the active scan to prevent further delays or errors.
  2. Switch to a Windows Agent for the data scan.

Next Steps

If you encounter any issues or have further questions about agent compatibility, please contact CYRISMA Support or refer to the Knowledge Base for additional resources.
