Updating CYRISMA Scan Agents and Java Requirements

You may have scan agents that are still running an older version and may appear to need Java to function. However, with recent updates, the CYRISMA agent no longer requires a separate Java installation. This guide explains how scan agents automatically update and the conditions required for updates to take place.

Automatic Updating of CYRISMA Agents 1. 3 AM Automatic Check 2. Agent Restart Troubleshooting Agents Not Updating Java Requirements Conclusion

Automatic Updating of CYRISMA Agents

There are two key conditions under which CYRISMA agents will check their version and apply updates:

1. 3 AM Automatic Check

  • Each day at 3 AM, the agent will automatically check if an update is required, provided the host machine is powered on and awake.
  • If the host machine is sleeping or shut down at 3 AM every day, the agent may not receive updates for a long time.

2. Agent Restart

  • Any time an agent is restarted, it will check for updates.
  • This restart can occur in several ways:
    • Manually by the user from the Windows Services or equivalent system.
    • Via RMM tools, where admins can restart services remotely.
    • From the CYRISMA Web Interface by clicking the restart icon next to the agent on the Scan Agents page.

Troubleshooting Agents Not Updating

If an agent is not checking in, it will not be able to update or receive restart requests from the CYRISMA Web interface. This can happen if the agent is:

  • Offline, sleeping, or disconnected.
  • The machine may need to be powered on or reconnected to the network for the agent to perform updates.

Agents that are behind in their version must be connected and checking in to upgrade. You may need to manually restart the service or ensure the machine is powered on at the appropriate time.

Java Requirements

  • Java is no longer required as a separate installation for the CYRISMA agent to function.
    • The agent now includes its own bundled java.exe as part of the installation package.
    • If Java was previously installed solely for the agent's use, it can now be safely removed from the host machine.

Conclusion

To ensure that your agents are running the latest version, make sure they are powered on during the 3 AM check or restart them manually if needed. Java is no longer required, so any previous installations of Java for CYRISMA agents can be removed. Keep agents connected to ensure they stay updated automatically.
